Two columns turn to nonsense

Screening software reads a page left to right, one line at a time. In a two-column design your side panel gets spliced through your job history, and what comes out is not a sentence anybody can read.

Your dates disappear

Dates put inside a table or a text box often never come through. Software that cannot find your dates cannot work out how many years you have — so it assumes none. That alone sinks an experienced candidate.

Your skills are a picture

Five stars beside "Advanced Excel" is an image, and an image has no words in it. If your skills live inside a graphic, the software finds none of them — and neither does the keyword filter on Naukri.

Is JobFolio really free?

Yes, to build and to check. Writing a resume, previewing it and running the ATS score cost nothing and need no card. The free plan covers two saved documents and three PDF downloads a month, and your PDF carries no watermark. Pro is ₹199 a month if you want unlimited downloads and the premium designs.

What is an ATS, in plain terms?

An applicant tracking system — the software a company uses to collect and sort applications. It reads your resume, pulls out your name, contact details, jobs and skills, and files them. Anything it cannot read simply is not there when a recruiter searches. That is why layout matters as much as what you have written.

Do Indian companies actually use one?

The large ones do — IT services, banks, consultancies and most MNCs screen through software before a person opens anything. Naukri and LinkedIn both work the same way: a recruiter searches keywords, and you appear only if the words are in your resume as text. A small firm hiring twenty people may well read every CV by hand — but you rarely know which kind you are applying to, so it is worth being readable to both.

I am a fresher with no experience. Is this for me?

Yes, and freshers gain the most. With no work history the software has less to find, so the parts you do have — your degree, your projects, your internships, your skills — have to come through cleanly. Leave the Experience section empty and fill in Projects and Education instead; nothing empty is ever printed.

Can I upload the resume I already have?

Yes. Upload a PDF or a Word file and we read the details out of it — your name, contact, jobs, education and skills — then show you everything we found so you can correct it before anything is saved. It takes about a minute against twenty spent retyping. Free on every plan.

Will my resume actually pass?

No tool can promise that, and anyone who does is selling something. A screen is software plus a person plus a shortlist. What we can do is make sure the software reads every word you wrote instead of half of them. Run the score checker on your current resume and on one built here, and compare the two numbers.

Is my data safe? Do you keep my resume?

A file you upload is read for its text and then discarded — we never write it to disk. What we keep is what you type into the editor, in your own account, which you can export or delete from your settings at any time. We do not sell data and we do not share your documents with recruiters.

Should I put a photo on my resume?

For most private-sector roles in India, no. It takes space you could use for content, and some screening software stumbles on it. Our Minimal ATS template leaves it out entirely. A marriage biodata is the opposite case — there the photo belongs at the top.
