Common questions
What is an offer letter?
A written offer of employment: the role, the pay, where the work happens and when it starts. It is what a candidate shows their current employer when they resign, so the dates and the number in it matter.
How is it different from an appointment letter?
An offer letter is the proposal — it can be declined, and it usually has a date it expires on. The appointment letter comes after acceptance and carries the full terms of employment: probation, notice period, working hours. Most companies issue both.
Should the CTC be in the offer letter?
Yes, and candidates should insist on it. An offer with no number is not an offer. If the breakup is still being worked out, state the annual CTC and say the detailed structure follows in the appointment letter.
How long should an offer stay valid?
A week is normal and two is generous. The validity field prints the date on the letter, which prevents the awkward conversation where a candidate accepts a month later at a salary you have since revised.
Is an offer letter legally binding in India?
It creates obligations once accepted, and courts have treated a withdrawn offer as actionable where a candidate resigned in reliance on one. Treat it as a commitment rather than a formality, and do not issue one you are not ready to honour.
Can I add a joining bonus or relocation terms?
Put them in the body — the wording is fully editable, and anything you type there prints as part of the letter. Keep conditional items conditional in the text, so nobody reads a maybe as a promise.
Is it free, and is there a watermark?
Two letters a month are free, with no watermark on either plan. Pro removes the monthly limit and adds the logo and signature uploads.
Can I reuse it for several candidates?
Yes. Set the company details once, then duplicate the letter and change the name, role and number — that is the quickest path when you are hiring a batch.
