Common questions
What should a resignation letter say?
Four things: that you are resigning, the post you are resigning from, the date you intend to leave, and thanks. Everything else is optional, and most of what people add is the part they later wish they had not.
Should I give a reason?
You do not have to. A reason is courteous and usually harmless if it is neutral — a better opportunity, higher studies, relocation. Grievances belong in an exit conversation, not in a document that stays in your file permanently.
How much notice do I have to give?
Whatever your appointment letter says, commonly one to three months in India. Count your last working day from the date you submit, not from the date it is accepted, and state it explicitly so there is no argument later.
Who should it be addressed to?
Your reporting manager, with HR copied — or HR directly if that is your company practice. Address it to a person rather than to "To whomsoever it may concern", which reads as a form letter.
Can my employer refuse to accept it?
They can decline to relieve you early, but a resignation served with proper notice is not something that requires permission. Keep the dated copy and the acknowledgement — that is what you show if the relieving letter is delayed.
Should I email it or hand it over?
Both. Email creates the timestamp that settles when notice started; a signed printed copy is what goes in the file. Download the PDF and do both on the same day.
Is it free, and is there a watermark?
Two documents a month are free, with no watermark on either plan. Pro removes the monthly limit and adds the signature upload.
What comes after this?
The relieving letter and the experience letter, both issued by the employer once the handover is done. This tool makes those too, though your employer is the one who has to issue them.
